Plastisols

Plastisols are liquid pastes made of dispersions of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resins in plasticizers. They provide an easy and practical way to apply coating layers on metal, wood, paper, and fabric objects. Depending on the application method used, the vinyl dispersions deposit a layer of vinyl resin—a colored, solid plastic—onto these objects, producing coatings that are weather- and chemical-resistant, resilient, electrically insulating, and pleasant to the touch. They have excellent abrasion resistance and form a perfect barrier against corrosion. Both glossy and matte finishes can be achieved in a wide variety of colors.

Applications:

The paste’s viscosity ranges from that of a fluid liquid to a more viscous liquid. Some of our plastisol types have been designed to withstand extreme temperature variations, from –50°C to +120°C. When gelled (hardened) through a simple heat treatment, the paste transforms into a solid, which can range from soft and highly flexible (Shore hardness 40 or less) to semi-rigid (Shore hardness up to 95), depending on the composition of the paste. Hardened plastisols are highly durable, waterproof, odorless, and resistant to discoloration. They are not attacked by detergents and, within certain limits, can resist contact with oils and fats; special types have also been formulated to provide coatings suitable for continuous immersion in oils. Plastisols can also provide coatings suitable for low-temperature applications. Special types of our plastisols are formulated for fabric coating, dip treatment, spray application, and various other production methods.

Storage
Our plastisols have excellent shelf life for four to six months, and even longer if stored correctly. They should be kept in environments with temperatures between 10°C and 35°C; higher temperatures cause a gradual increase in viscosity, which cannot be fully reversed. Lower temperatures do not permanently damage the paste, but temporarily increase viscosity, slowing flow. Satisfactory viscosity can be achieved by keeping the paste at temperatures between 18°C and 30°C. Some pastes are thixotropic and increase in viscosity after long storage. To restore normal viscosity, simply stir the paste gently.

Technological Coatings

Plastisols for Soundproofing

A high-performance plastisol with excellent resilience and abrasion resistance, capable of damping vibrations and cushioning impacts. Its primary use is to coat the walls of hoppers in presses for molding small parts or extrusion, where parts to be processed are lifted to heights of several meters and then fall, when exceeding the feeder capacity, back into the lower hopper, generating intolerable noise. The same results are achieved by coating collection bins for parts coming from molding machines or idle mechanical processes. Two versions are available: for dip application or spray application.

Plastisols per isolamento elettrico
Electrical Insulation for Bars, Electrical Components, and Galvanic Equipment

A highly impact-resistant plastisol capable of forming thick layers with excellent dielectric properties, exceptional resistance to acids, and full cataphoresis processes. It can be mechanically processed with ease to achieve precise dimensions. Its thixotropic properties ensure coated parts are free from imperfections.

Plastisols per isolamento manici
Insulation for Handles of Pliers and/or Tools

Coating plier handles requires products with high dielectric properties and exceptional wear resistance due to handling. For single-layer applications, significant compactness and tenacity are required. For multi-layer applications with different colors, the product must allow easy application and ensure compatibility between layers.

A special plastisol designed to produce gloves for sports applications, where in addition to decorative appearance, high grip, maneuverability, and durability are required. It is generally applied in spots by spreading onto a specific fabric support.

Artificial Leathers

These are pastes typically prepared by manufacturers of artificial leather, using continuous production lines. Those without suitable equipment can access our complete range, both in color and quality, from solid to foamed types, suitable for bonding to fabrics or using release paper.

Fabric Coating

A highly thixotropic plastisol specifically designed for coating synthetic or natural fabrics. The plastisol penetrates the fabric weave, anchoring perfectly and making it waterproof. Coated fabrics are ideal for marine applications and truck covers, thanks to their excellent resistance to aging, light, and weathering.

Plastisols per nastri trasportatori
Plastisols for Conveyor Belts

Typically obtained by spreading special plastisols that provide softness, washability, anti-dust properties, absence of unpleasant odors, and appropriate colors.

Coat Hangers

Plastisol with specific anti-slip properties required for this application. It can be applied to various metals (bare iron, nickel-plated, or galvanized) in round or flat, profiled shapes. Other important properties include preventing dripping during application and avoiding surface migration of components during use, which could damage garments.

Insignia or Patches

Plastisols, either colored or completely transparent, suitable for spreading on fabrics using special molds. Gelation can occur either in ovens or with heated plates. They are highly light-resistant and adhere well to any fabric.

Backing for Abrasive Discs

Modified foamed plastisol with elastomers, suitable for molding in closed molds to achieve various shapes depending on the application (rotating discs or vibratory finishing). It can include metal inserts for machine attachment. It combines high mechanical performance with notable softness and flexibility.

Rotomolding

Plastisols specifically designed for rotomolding machines, allowing the production of large flexible PVC objects, such as toys, dolls, or mannequins for clothing. Large membranes for potable water storage in expansion vessels can also be produced.

Fishing Lures

Plastisols with special softness and flexibility characteristics, suitable for producing lures and other related applications.

Plastisols per incollaggio a punti
Spot Adhesion Plastisols

A pseudoplastic adhesive plastisol specially formulated for use on ceramic tiles and mosaics. It is applied using special automatic machines, preforming the grout lines between tiles. This system replaces the traditional adhesive paper method, which can react with moisture and cause detachment from the substrate.

Automotive Applications

Plastisols per filtri aria
Plastisols for Air Filters

These plastisols are used for the production of air filters in both the automotive and industrial sectors. They are particularly widely applied in the automotive industry, with different qualities suitable for every production technology. They are generally customized in color and designed for use in continuous, semi-automatic, or manual production lines. The filtering element can be made of treated paper, mesh, or other materials compatible with the operating temperatures.

Plastisols per filtri olio
Plastisols for Oil Filters

These plastisols are used for producing oil filters in both the automotive and industrial sectors. Their key feature is being self-adhesive, allowing the filter element to bond directly to the support, which can be made of cardboard or metal. Common metals include iron, galvanized iron, tinplate, phosphated iron, and light alloys. Another important characteristic of these plastisols is resistance to engine oils at 140°C and to fuels.

Rivestimento molle
Coating of Springs

Plastisol for spring coating is a plasto-elastic material with high protective properties for components exposed to corrosive agents and subjected to alternating movements that cause significant tensile and compressive stresses.

Food packaging

Plastisols per chiusura contenitori in vetro
Plastisols for Glass Container Closures

Glass bottles are normally closed with appropriate metal caps, and sealing is achieved using gaskets placed between the glass and metal. These gaskets are typically formed inside the cap using a special type of plastisol (compound) and constitute an integral part of the cap itself. The compound’s structure in its final state can be cellular (foamed) or solid (non-foamed); both are achieved during the application cycle, particularly in the final “cooking” stage. Generally, an appropriate primer is required to ensure the compound adheres perfectly to the internal surface of the cap, allowing it to perform optimally as a sealing element. Compounds used in this field are classified according to the type of closure. For all applications, selecting raw materials is crucial to guarantee not only non-toxicity but also the absolute absence of taste transfer to the liquids in contact.

Plastisols per tappi corona
Plastisols for Crown Caps

Compounds with a foamed structure, obtained during the fusion phase, are generally used. They provide excellent sealing, both under normal conditions and after pasteurization. Different application methods require the use of specific products.

Compounds for Aluminum Roll-On / Pilfer Proof Capsules

These are screw caps, with threading formed during bottle closure by specialized machines equipped with rollers. The security feature of these caps is a ring at the end of the cap, connected by small bridges of the same aluminum sheet. During opening, this ring tightens around the bottle neck and detaches from the rest of the cap when the small bridges break, clearly indicating tampering. A key characteristic of the compound, applied to the inner bottom of the cap as the gasket, is its high sealing performance combined with low unscrewing torque (less than 8 kg·cm).
